  • What is nadan sharkkara?

Nadan sharkkara (നാടൻ ശർക്കര) is the Malayalam name for traditional unrefined cane jaggery. Sugarcane juice is boiled down in an open pan until it sets solid. Nothing is removed and nothing is added, so the molasses that gives jaggery its colour, minerals and flavour stays in.

  • How much does a pack cost?

A 500 g pack of Chembakam Foods Cane Jaggery Cubes costs ₹85. Order on WhatsApp at +91 79942 95195 and we confirm the total, including courier, before you pay.

  • Is jaggery healthier than white sugar?

Jaggery is still sugar and should be treated as sugar. What differs is what comes with it: refined white sugar is stripped of its molasses and usually sulphur-treated, while jaggery keeps its molasses and the iron, magnesium, potassium and calcium in it. Our pack carries 95 mg magnesium, 700 mg potassium and 650 mg calcium per 100 g. It is a better sugar, not a health food.

  • Where does your sugarcane come from?

Kerala does not grow cane at the scale a jaggery unit needs, so ours is brought in from established cane belts outside the state. The boiling, setting and packing all happen at our unit in Embate, Pariyaram, Kannur. We would rather say so than imply a local harvest we do not have.

  • Is your jaggery organic and chemical-free?

The pack lists a single ingredient: organic sugarcane juice. There is no added colour, no preservative and no chemical clarifier such as super-phosphate or sodium bicarbonate. The scum is skimmed off by hand instead, which is slower but leaves nothing behind. FSSAI licence 21325252000739.

  • Do you deliver outside Kerala?

Yes. Courier charges depend on weight and pincode — send us your address on WhatsApp and we will quote before you pay.

  • Can I order in bulk for a shop or hotel?

That is a large part of what we do. Tell us the quantity and how often you need it, and we will work out a standing rate.

  • Why does the colour change between packets?

Because nothing is added to keep it consistent. Cane variety, rainfall and how long the batch boiled all show up in the block. Darker is not worse.

  • How should I store it?

The pack says it plainly: store in a cool, dry place, and once opened transfer it to an airtight container. Best before is 60 days from packing. Kerala humidity is the only real enemy — jaggery that softens has picked up moisture, and is still perfectly good to eat.
